Swamp Donkey

Sponsor 2015
About the Band
Formed in March of 2013, Swamp Donkey is a high energy Electric Newgrass band. They are made up of a mixed bag of musicians with extremely diverse musical backgrounds.

Founding member Greg DeHaas on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, and Will Crowther on lead Guitar combine their influences from the likes of The Grateful Dead and other “jambands” to drive the unique mix of the “grass” style and Rock & Roll. Will’s exceptional ability to improvise his way through complex tempo and style changes, is truly one of the signature features of Swamp Donkey. It is all tied down to its “grassy” roots by the latest addition to the band, fiddler

Dani Weissman. Dani is a classically trained violinist who is continuously evolving her style to throw down a distinct and progressive sound. With more than 25 years in the business, bassist Greg Nelson (with no background in the “grass” world) is the backbone to the high energy delivery that is a typical Swamp Donkey song. His fusion of Classic Rock, Metal, and his new “grass” style of playing the electric bass, is the proverbial “kick you in the face” that defines Swamp Donkey.

Drums rarely find their way into anything “grassed up”, especially Electric drums! But, the bands’ Drummer, Greg Herb offers a steady and efficient back beat with his electronic kit that sometimes accelerates to breakneck tempos.

Stretching the "grass" concept to the limit and offering a unique sound in the process has been the goal of the band from the start. They pride themselves on solid vocal harmonies and tight transitions in rhythm and tempo! Known to deliver a combination of original tunes and unique covers that stretch out across many genres, listeners are surely going to hear a “grassed up” version of something they can stomp their feet to.
