September 6, 2013. For immediate release. Woodstock, Md.
Brian Kahat was 6 years old in 1969 when the Woodstock Music Festival brought together half a million people to celebrate peace, love and rock ‘n’ roll. Back then, neither Kahat nor his family knew that his future as a married, father of three living in Woodstock, Maryland would include a music celebration far more personal. Kahat, now 49 and a stage 3 cancer survivor, is celebrating not only peace and love, but life and hope for all those affected by cancer.
As the founder of Woodstoc Roc, a local benefit concert to “Roc Out Cancer,” Kahat and his corps of 30 volunteers are bringing live entertainment—five bands and two special sneak-‐peek musical performances, to the Howard County Fairgrounds on Saturday, September 21, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Admission is $10 at the gate and lawn chairs and coolers are allowed.
Woodstoc Roc is a family friendly event featuring the bands Aftermath, Badmoon, Misspent Youth, Never 2 Strong and Radio Beast with special appearances by Unicorn Apocalypse and FIREKITE. Face-‐painting, games for the kids and Woodstoc Roc t-‐shirts for sale complement the music. Kahat, diagnosed with tonsil cancer in 2010, was still in aggressive treatment when he conceived Woodstoc Roc—an event he created to help other cancer patients and families in their fight. Come relax, have fun with friends and family, enjoy live music by Maryland talent, and help in the fight against cancer. All proceeds from the concert go directly to the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults and the American Cancer Society.
The support of his family and friends helped Kahat recover despite his stage 3 diagnosis. Others may have been happy enough to return to work, continue playing in the band and hang out with family, grateful for a second chance. Kahat wanted to do more—and since he’d realized his childhood dream of playing in a band, Kahat knew that rock ‘n’ roll was how he would help the cause and “roc out cancer”.
This month’s Woodstoc Roc is the second annual event and has drawn support from the Howard County community including: NewWave Telecom & Technologies, BB&T Bank, Jolles Insurance & Financial, the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, American Cancer Society, The Albright Foundation, Max Szczukowski Design and Pizza 500.
Corporate sponsorships are still being accepted. Sponsor’s names will be listed on the event web site and on selected advertisement pieces, posted on a banner at the event, and sponsors will be acknowledged during a presentation at the event.
